The wife loves the 30fps lock option, she can't play 60fps games no matter how stable the framerate is, she gets motion sickness.

More games need these toggle options.

The framerate is bound to be a failure of epic proportions, just like Mario Kart 8. I may have spent decades playing 3D games at variable sub 30fps without any problem, but any modern game that dips for a millisecond below 60fps literally makes my eyes bleed. Not to be dramatic, but I'm considering quitting gaming forever because of it.

I cant tell what is serious and satire on GAF anymore.

joke post?

I really hope Photo Mode becomes one of Sony's main features. Uncharted 4, Quantic Dream, Guerilla Games. Dear god.
Quantic Dream already has it as a dev/debug feature and it's awesome. Really should be made available to the public instead of locking it away on the disc.

I genuinely think a photo mode would increase interest in stuff like Beyond. People love taking photos of pretty things.

And Sony Santa Monica. Don't forget the shit they can come up with.

This can probably be extended to all Sony-owned studios. I think it mentioned before that the stuff Bend and London are doing is insane.

So motion sickness from 60 FPS is a real thing?! I'm constantly surprised by the aspects of gaming that could cause motion sickness.

Yes but if it drops 1 fps somewhere then it is really a slideshow

Am I allowed to fix comments from mods? Cuz I just did #DealWithIt

please don't ban me!

I thought it was the other way around? Choppy or sub 30fps games caused motion sickness. Weird. But I agree, the option to lock is excellent.

How are actual in-game features "marketing text"? They aren't making up words to make the game appear better than it is, they are actual improvements. 1080p, 60fps, cut-scene quality assets in-game, updated lighting, better AA, better AF, better quality shadows and a photomode is not "basically the same game".

I know that the game will look better.

I just did not understand why anyone would need gameplay for this. Because gameplay mechanics are exactly the same as before.

And I doubt that you will see much difference unless you see a high bitrate 1080p stream.

The option to lock the frames at 30 is worrying. I hope that simply means it's for people who don't like the added motion effect. Looks awesome though. May have to double dip.

Because Left Behind spoils some major points of the main game, so you should complete the main game first.
I thought the first post I quoted (in the actual post) said they had already beaten the game on ps3. I've already beaten the game so I see no reason to NOT jump right into the dlc.

this is kind of what im talking about

the cutscenes do take on a different "feel" - dunno - im probably over analyzing it

again for the love of all things sacred i love gaming at 60fps+, my only complaint with Destiny so far, for example, is the 30fps limit. dont know why im having this ridiculous second guessing about TLOU

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-watch-uncharted-4-and-the-last-of-us-at-60-fps

So that PS4 trailer is a mix of real-time and pre-rendered CG cut scenes?

I would think this is very common, people finished the single player on ps3 but never had the DLC, the DLC would be what they want to play first

its understandable if you have been unable to keep up with the fast and furious TLoU threads today...but ND has gone on record saying the lock is simply there for the "purists" (their actual words) who want to experience the game as close to the PS3 version as possible...

multiple ND employees have also stated that they have ironed out any frame drops...

part of me is always skeptical of claims like this...but its a little unlike Naughty Dog to be this outspoken about these types of things so im really starting to believe them...

im realistic in my expectations though so i expect to see drops of a frame here or there when things get crazy in the DF analysis...but im buying the hype at this point

I'll bet the people at Naughty Dog wish they'd never said anything about frame rate. I've found the barrage of messages from naysayers on social media tiresome and I'm just an observer.

I bet the people at Naughty Dog are happy about the amount of discussion about their game(s). Especially when they are able to rub somewhat stable 60 fps in the critic's faces, which I guess they will be. :)

This. Assuming they have this nailed, pretty sure ND is having a good laugh about all the paranoia and cynicism. They got that with the UC4 trailer and they are getting it again.

I URGE PEOPLE. DO NOT DO THIS:

Why the fuck not? If I've already played through TLoU on PS3, why shouldn't I play the DLC first (since it's a prequel)? It can't possibly spoil anything in the main game since I've already played it.

Stealth-edit:
Okay, already mentioned above I see..

I'm holding out for consumer brand quantum computers. If the graphics aren't more real than reality I can't suspend my disbelief. That's just how keen my eyes are. Even then, I expect lazy devs who don't want to render form on an atomic level to screw things up for us true gamers. I don't think developers generally appreciate the amount of effort it takes for me to wait until I can get their game for $10 on Black Friday, drive all th way to the mall and back, and put it on my shelf after playing it twice. Go figure.

Yup, I guess has something to do with stuff moving too fast on screen.

Eyes are a curious thing.

In my experience, it's very much a real thing, especially for someone watching you play a faster paced 60FPS game where you move the camera point of view around. I think the reason is twofold:

- 60FPS saturates visual stream that your brain receives far more than 30fps does, thus increasing the discord of your head not moving (while watching at the screen) but your view moving.
- 60FPS games invite the player to perform twitchier / faster camera motions, again exaggerating the discord from previous point.
- I do not believe the 60FPS motion is a natural state of affairs for our brain, the kind of thing the brain expects when you move your head around. Reason being the micro movements in the eyes called saccades which make the eye jump from point to point in space as you scan around with your head, resulting in something that brain perceives as a bit jittery visual stream. The so-called "Smooth Pursuit" in which this jittery eye movement is not present usually only occurs when the head/eyes are tracking a moving object in space. This is not to say that 30FPS motion is a natural affair either, but I think it provides some kind of expected jitteriness.

Mind, all this has nothing to do with choppy sub-30FPS games also causing uneasiness in someone watching, but I think it's for a different reason: Brain has to work overtime to try and fill in the perceived gaps in missing information.
