I had a pretty rough first 12 hours, not exactly to the point of frustration as slimysnake but a few tips helped.
Do the first blacksmith quest, find the cart. You can go back to the old woman and do pavlenas quest in full. Then go to the miller and start his quest. Thatll teach you sneaking around and unarmed fighting.
Then go find your dog.
Then do tomcat and the voidvode quest.
After these you'll have well over a thousand groschen, a horse, a few places to sleep, and tons of good gear.
I had to savescum and fight tomcat 20+ times to get an edge and finally win, but he's way harder than most enemies and now I'm sailing through combat.
I think the games biggest issue is that combat is quite complex, with tons of rules, but at the start of the game you don't get any opportunities to practice so when you suddenly end up in a fight you're all thumbs and trying to remember which side your sword should be relative to theirs to do certain moves.
I've been menu save scumming a lot which helped take some of the pressure off.
20 hours in I have the game totally under control, if I get pasted in a fight it's usually now because they're much stronger than me and I need to change my strategy.
The writing is fucking incredible and all the side quests so far have been amazing.
Yeah early game is tough in this, but after like 15 hours it will become a smooth sailing and well worth it
