Possibly the most boring gaming experience I've ever endured, obviously some people love it but it wasn't for me.
I don't know man. Sure you spend a lot of time on the horse admiring the scenery but the rest of the time it's either good gameplay, immersive role-playing or watching a scene with good writting.

Is that RDR2 avatar? Confusing, since KCD2 is the best thing since RDR2 and has quite a lot in common with it in regards to immersion and world building.
Just yesterday I was thinking about how both games are very similar in some aspects but also how KCD manages to be better in many of them. It's just more fun to play imo.

I love RDR2 but agree that core gameplay of KCD2 is more "fun" since controlling Arthur is a bit chorey.
I am also not a huge fan of Rockstar's extremely linear mission design. Of course, they get away with it because the missions are so well written, but KCD2 being much more open (while equalling it in writing quality) is definitely an improvement.

Maybe I didn't give it enough time 12hrs and gave up. As for the RD2 comparison it simply pales in terms of a simulated world and although it's story seemed good the characters are no where near as compelling.

Thinking about I'm going give it another go, I want to like it and the opening few scenes I did enjoy.

Agree to disagree! I think the characters in KCD are amazing. I remember playing the first game and having the feel that the writting was on the level of a good TV show or movie. World simulation I think is good, specially in the 2nd game with the expanded crime system and NPCs being more reactive.

Rockstar's writting and characters are very good as well. Was playing RDR2 not long ago and was surprised at all the different lines of dialogue the people at the camp had to say.

I think you'll do fine giving it another go. It's a slow game but I think it's worth the time investment.

12h is nothing for this game. Especially as the beginning is the roughest part of the game. Your skills are bad, you are weak, you cant do shit, you have no clue how anything works in the game (unless you played the first game). I would recommend first thing to do...is getting enough money (around 120 groschen/coins) to get you a room in a nice tavern...not for one day...but for longer (basically unlimited time). Zhelejov is ideal for this. Than use this tavern as your hub and go exploring the whole map from there.

I haven’t been this absorbed in a game since the first time I played oblivion. I’m obsessed. I was doing some quests in kuttenburg and somehow that turned into “hey I’m going to hide in the swordsmiths basement and rob him at midnight. I then proceeded to pick the entire market dry. lol

I’m at the point where I can pick very hard locks, run like the wind, sword fight like a master, and talk my way out of some nasty situations. The RPG character growth is simply some of the absolute best.

This was my initial impression when I tried 1 way back in the day. Make sure you're in the mood for a real slow immersive peasant simulator, cause that's what it is and if that's not what you're in the mood for then it can ruin the whole experience for you.

It's all about 'the journey' more than the destination, and damn that glow up feels so goooood

You gotta push through the opening like 20 hours, get good at all the skills: lockpicking/fighting by doing them repeatedly (it levels you up and makes them way easier, the game basically makes you SEVERELY underpowered at the start)

Finished the story and have the achievement for "completing most of the games content". GOTY. No question. An absolute masterpiece and a game I'll come back to every so often. In the same league as Skyrim and such.
It’s honestly prob better than Skyrim based on the fact that it seems to have choices that actually have an effect - the stuff they praise New Vegas for - while maintaining the simulated world aspect - its combat is deeper/better as well

Nah, 12 hours is nothing. Game gets easy around 25 hours when you have armor and have upgraded your strength and stamina so you can actually do damage and pull off some combos without tiring. And then you can focus on the the story and the campaign missions which are way better than the ubisoft quality side quests.

Just stick with it. Cutscenes are legit great. Characters are interesting. Story keeps you hooked and there is actual decision making/role playing during dialogue scenes. what a novel idea for an RPG in 2025, i know!

hell, i would say forget the open world and just do the story missions. go to the wedding. that whole quest is basically the tutorial for the game. they give you armor, sword, and a bunch of other gear for free during that questline. by the time you are done with the wedding and the subsequent story missions, you should have a bunch of high quality gear that will make the open world a lot easier. hell, there isnt much combat in that entire questline so just do the blacksmith part of the quest, get to the wedding and the quest after, and dont even worry about being underleveled.

Just did the Fort mission. It was really well written in that they dont really make it obvious but Henry slowly starts to catch on. I got there before Henry, but I rather enjoyed doing detective work. Really cool mission. Havent played a lot of these recently. I just wish there was another way to get to that cellar. It didnt feel satisfying how easily i was able to get there.

The game clearly has some great ideas, but the execution is not quite there. They make you talk to so many characters in that fort, and several spill the beans, but in the end, it basically comes down to you stealing the keys and just walking in the cellar right in front of everyone. Maybe let threaten a guard or talk an NPC into taking me there. Or have me sneak in through the back or something. They actually dont allow you to go into a section at the bottom of the fort. there is a basement there so i figured there would be a tunnel leading back into the prison cellar but nope. its just 'more evidence'. It's a small thing, but it wouldve made this level go from great to truly fantastic.

Twitter doesn't load for me anymore for some reason, can you explain what it is?
I occasionally get twitter links on here that say "Not Found" but others work. Also have seen other people say they aren't working for them, too.

Anyway:
Henry randomly digs a hole in a shit pit behind an outhouse. 10 days later, an NPC asks Henry to dig a hole behind the outhouse because good-for-nothing lay-abouts haven't gotten around to it. Henry says "I've already done it". The NPC goes: "wtf? You just dig shit holes for fun?" (Paraphrasing)

Let the wolves attack you and parry them. Then get one hit in. Rinse and repeat.

Go back to the ranch where you got the quest for the man in the tree. There is an archery range there. Equip everything until you are over encumbered and start shooting. If you can brew a Henry Fox do it but you likely can’t unless you have been brewing potions like i did for the first 15 hours of the game.

You will upgrade a lot of different skills very fast that way. It will make killing wolves easier.
Just killed both pack of wolves, parry and one hit works perfectly. Bringing back the hunter to his hideout was fun! Now to get back the horse and crossbow.
One thing others mentioned is how satisfying just walking around feel.

100%. The positive response to KCD2 inspired me to reinstall the first game and give it a second chance after bouncing off of it hard the first time. I think what you're saying had a lot to do with me not liking it the first time around, I just wasn't in the mood for the pace. Playing it now, I'm really loving the game - just soaking in the atmosphere and it sucked me in giving me a sense of urgency to do main quests I haven't felt in an RPG in a while. It definitely has it's quirks here and there, but man it's satisfying.

Every time I ride in from afar..: The combination of all the details accumulating and yet it's a butter-smooth experience at all times from first sight to standing in the center, it's so damn nice man.
Yeah it's amazing how much they've improved when it comes to optimization.

Upon reaching the city I went to the menu and enabled the FPS counter, getting ready for the worst since I've played KCD1 and Rattay ran like shit. Took a stroll through some sections of the city and it was a steady 60 with 0 dips, I was amazed.

Eso dijo ella

Glad that you are enjoying it papito
Haven't played an RPG this good since I played BG2 for the first time like 3 or 4 years ago. Fucking great game.

Enjoyed this comparison to real life locations!

Lol, the thumbnail nails it. First thing I did upon reaching Trosky castle was googling it because I couldn't believe that shit was real.

Jeez apparently I'm pegged as a thief just because I stole some clothes out of the chest (from a guy I killed for the old lady from the intro). I've been avoiding troskowitz for several in game days. How long does the red shield hang around?

Just surrender to a guard and pay the fine

Just started the exodus story mission. Can anyone tell me how much main story I have left?

Still got a decent amount left of msq

lol Just did the first major 1v1 sword duel in the game after the ambush mission, and i literally won it in two hits. It was so epic and it was over in a second. Hilarious.

Im almost 50 hours in and have completely ruined the game for myself by holding off on going to the wedding until hour 38 or so. This is probably an hour 15 mission. The problem is that the game is too hard early on forcing you to go and do other stuff because you keep getting your ass kicked by bandits even after ten hours. But the game's main campaign is designed around this. Almost every story mission so far has people fighting alongside you. this was the first major sword fight in the story so far and it is clearly designed around people who are early into the story.

Anyone starting the game now. Just do the story missions. Leave all the side quests for until after the wedding.

I disagree. People should best play exactly how they feel in the moment. No overthinking, and no reloading of imperfect details.

Anyway, I'm 88 hours in, long after the wedding, and to my surprise, contrary to the report from some, I've been often completely demolished by bandits and other enemies.

Yes my character is getting much stronger, but the margins also seem smaller, and thus stakes seems higher. The game also seem to ramp up the skills of some of the enemies, because some fights now take me a LOT more time to complete, if I'm at all able. Idk..

(But I'm playing without the dog because I find the increased challenge more interesting.)

I think random Bandit's level are scaled to Henry's level. I haven't done the wedding and more of Trosky bandit are wearing Milanese set

Hardcore more is going to fix this issue of creating an unbalanced in the gameplay. Its a shame that the game didn't shipped with this mode

You kinda can modify the difficulty yourself as well by not using plate armour and a bit worse weapons. You could even in the endgame get 1 combo killed.

Probably been asked many times, but how much would I miss by playing this without playing the original? Not really in the mood for going back to a long PS4 game at 30fps.
I started the original, played a bit past the introduction and even finished a dlc, but the 30 fps bothered me too much, so I quit.

In the end I watched a story recap and started the second one. Together with the flashbacks in the second one, i don't feel like I missed too much and am really enjoying it. 30h in and no regrets.

In light of another botched PC release that is Monster Hunter Wilds, I want to thank the guys at Warhorse for such an incredible and OPTIMIZED game. No crashes of any kind in all of my 84 hour play-through so far. Unless there's some late in the year miracle, this is certainly my GOTY as of now.

The game does a great job of showing what'a important from the first one. I bounced off 1 hard back in the day, went straight to 2 and fell in love and am now back in 1 for more kcd glory.

So for those that are stealth players can we get bow skills to where head shots are one shot kills? Arrows seem a little wonky for me.

Archery was my hardest skill to get good at, but eventually it feels good. And yeah I was able to get one shot headshot kills, but I cant remember if any of them had helms on...
