I must admit there are some clever addition being added to this even if one doesn't care for the character tweaking.

Really need to rebuy a Wii for this. Played this a bit on my Wii U and it's great. Can't wait for the new version today. It was difficult to tell since I was using Wiimote + Nunchuk but can Lucas still do his PK Fire (now Freeze) -> PSI Shield to recover ridiculous distances?

EDIT: Aw, finally read up on everything. No more Zap Jumping with Lucas. :p

Question for the devs: Can you still do a jump-canceled Usmash out of a dash by hitting C-stick up? I know it's an engine wide thing from Brawl, but it's a buff Fox didn't need.

Been waiting all day, so excited to try this out!

Hopefully 2.5 will make my friends want to play this over regular Brawl, since one of them likes what they did to Ivysaur.

Current board game of Game of Thrones with friends is about halfway through. By the time that's over it'll be 2 or 3 AM here, so probably won't get to play new Project M until tomorrow anyway. Hype dreams inbound.

Just wanted to post that atm it is uploading so if you can wait a little while longer you'll likely be able to snag it. :)

Get hyped, plz.

Forgive me for the possibly stupid question, but does the change in physics apply to things like SSE and the event matches and such as well?

Single player content is still being worked out, as there are often some freezes and etc (hence why it's called a demo and not anything like... normal version #s). SSE has the physics applied to a degree and also event matches, though like I said, single player modes have chances of crashing in areas or other bugs.

Is it PAL compatible. People told me they'd work on that when it was final but is final V1 or whenever they stop updating?

Nintendo wouldn't hire these people because they give fans the games they want the way they want.
They give a small percentage of fans what they want i.e. themselves.. Pretty sure there is a fanbase for vanilla Brawl and Nintendo has the job of appeasing the majority rather than the minority.

Though I don't support doing it, you could always load up a NTSC copy via homebrew methods to play it. Or get an import.

However, to answer your question, this is not the final release. Still missing characters and still a lot of work to do on a bunch of smaller engine things.

Or they could appease everybody like what we're doing and what they did with Melee to begin with. Sure, we may have a geared focus on competitive, but we do pay attention to casuals. See: All the awesome aesthetic additions and more canon-styled moves/aesthetics.

Also, feel free to upvote if you want to give us more awareness, it's appreciated: http://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/15mcmq/super_smash_bros_brawl_mod_project_m_has_just/

There wasn't before Brawl. Nobody asked for the sequel to melee to be slower, trippier, and clunkier. There was just the Melee fan base and I don't think the majority of the previously established fan base got what they wanted.

Even my friends who don't know much about video games can tell that Brawl is really wonky compared to Melee.

Or course now there's a new demographic but even then Sakurai said he's gonna change things up agai for the new game so I find it unlikely that anyone is going to get what they want or expect this time around either.

For perspective, I like Brawl. But I prefer Project M.

I'm not trying to pick a fight I'm just saying it's very easy to say that this team is doing what the fans want because those who will play this have a similar mindset. The original developers unfortunately had the more difficult job of trying to please everyone which we all know is an impossible job. Also you do have the benefit from learning from what Vanilla Brawl did wrong. Wise after the event as they say.

I just feel it's bad form to say Nintendo didn't give people what they wanted. Brawl did deliver on some fronts such as giving the world Wario, more music, screenshot mode to name a few.

Sakurai obviously wanted to try something new with the gameplay because he felt giving us Melee 2.0 was the lazy option. Wait till the next game to see if he's taken on board the feedback he's received.

And I did say some of the non character tweaks were good ideas.

No one is saying Brawl wasn't a good game. What people are saying is the way he went about making a game different from Melee had the wrong mind set and methods used. Completely alienating competitive players going from Melee to Brawl was not the right mind set at all. He didn't have to do all of what he did to make it different from Melee.

Just adding a non-special fall and non-directional air dodge changes a lot about how you have to play the game for example. Floatier physics went too far. Slightly floatier than Melee may have been okay, but the way they are in Brawl is almost crazy to me. Especially with the fastfall rates. x.x

I think we're all on the same page here, it's just how things all culminate up to that many other players have the seething opinions they do about Sakurai. It doesn't help all the times during Brawl's release or after how he went on about, "Nobody should be the better player, everybody wins!" mantra (it wasn't those exact words but that's basically what he was saying). It was like he was following the trend Nintendo had with the Wii when Smash was already casual enough to begin with. Remember the first game? Still deep as hell for competitive players but also still amazingly fun and hilarious for casuals to this day.

I just don't know who you mean by everyone because I don't know anyone who played Melee who said 'Gee they should totally change the game mechanics next time around because they aren't good the way they are' lol.

It'd be like From Software making Dark Souls 2 easy because they'd get more people playing. I'm sure more people would, but they would bewilder the people who liked the games the way they were already.

Either way I'm excited to try out this new version :) I got most of my friends into Project M

The mass market, the general populace, mankind. Change is needed to expand because the opposite leads to stagnation. Sometimes mistakes are made, but to say Nintendo doesn't give the fans what they want is a bit silly. For one the fans wanted a new Smash Bros game. Also I'm sure it's an easy argument to make that not all fans are that interested in the mechanics but other aspects of the game like the characters or stages which Nintendo did deliver on. My only argument is that it's silly to say Nintendo doesn't try to please the fans because the game is slightly floatier.

woah I found a crazy glitch!

if u select/deselect a character on the character select screen rapidly (hit a b a b a b while hovering over a character), the game crashes.

Might just be me, but... weird.

Other than that, it feels fantastic. Very damn close to the perfect Melee feel at this point.

If you're seriously saying that the video game mass market demands constant change and variety, then that may very well be the most absurd thing I've ever read on these boards.

Anyway, I'm loving 2.5! Great work guys!

Anth0ny, I'd consider redownloading if you're getting a freeze like that. Just a recommendation.

Then make a new IP, don't break what you have in trying to improve the formula, is what I say.

Not that Brawl should have been a new IP or anything though lol.

This game is awesome. The only reason I didn't play the last version a lot with friends was the limited character pool, now this version is only missing a handful of characters it's good to go. Great stage selection, great movesets, this is my favorite Smash experience so far.

I hope on the full release we have more choices when it comes to the main menu music? I would love to have some other songs to choose from other than 3 versions of the Brawl theme (ie that Ocarina Medley or Balloon Fight).

You can replace those songs already if you know how. Other than that, as far as I'm aware there's no way to add new slots to the track lists without doing some roundabout method that causes a chunk of issues to the game's My Music page and other parts of the game, if I recall.

If it is something that becomes easily doable in the future without any issues, it could very well appear in the final release. :)

You can add your own music with BrawlBox.

Though I do agree that there should be some more UI/music/aesthetic changes to separate it from Brawl more. :p Would be cool to have a new default menu music theme (some remix of Melee's and Brawl's put together maybe?)

I usually replace the menu with this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGJMxdbpvTY or the rock version of Brawl's.

Is there a way to play this on dolphin? I tried looking in this thread but all I got was a dead link.

There is, but I'm not sure if the most recent version is more stable or less stable than the older version. I think you can still find a youtube tutorial of it... somewhere.

Oh I found it.

Replacing music is a bit of a touchy area because a lot of players like to put their own music on their SD Card (and download file size). We'd do more of it otherwise, at least where it would aesthetically make sense and fit with the overall product.

I downloaded JCaesar's music pack, but since I never bothered to unlock all the songs in the original game I think I'm missing out on a bunch of them. Is there any way to just quickly unlock all the songs?

Anyone have a 100% complete save for Brawl? Or rather does anybody know if the current Save Game installers/extractors for homebrew work on the Wii U? If not I'll just find that turn stickers into CDs code and regain all the music that way.

Yeah, I can understand that. Though I think just changing the menu theme would be pretty harmless and make the game appear more new, and then putting a link to BrawlBox and a tutorial on how to change it yourself on the Project M site would be great for new users.

EDIT: Since someone else was asking: Gecko OS code:
Peach Turnips -> CDs
4A000000 8098D528
D2000000 00000003
2C060056 40820008
38C0000B 60000000
90DD08C0 00000000

Should be for NTSC Brawl. Haven't seen a PAL version.

You could grab a 100% completed save file and use Savegame Installer to put it in (assuming you've got homebrew). I think somewhere on Brawl Vault there's a Peach .pac that allows her to pick up CDs instead of turnips (but you'd have to turn on regular Brawl to use it).
