Nintendo are pissing themselves. They will announce in Spring and release next year probably after milking all the parents for another xmas. They probably haven’t even designed the fucking thing yet.

Wildly unlikely...

Odd take. The goal isn’t to sell out, they want it available to anyone and everyone that wants one. Not to mention, retailers hate sell-outs. Customers don’t benefit from them. They benefit no one, not even Nintendo.

I actually disagree. Selling out can create a marketing hype that I fucking kid you not...NO amount of money can actually make in terms of any ad campaign, selling out is as good as having Beyoncé wearing your product or using it etc, it creates something in marketing that simply can't be made in an ad.

So the idea of them not having systems to sell for some short term, is worth the long term wild fucking success they will have with having the most talked about item in the world during that time frame. ie they want it sooooooooooo bad, NO ONE can get it in time, you BETTER HURRY etc

The concept of scarcity literally is a pillar in marketing and that did wild wonders for the Wii during its launch period

This is clearly a Clown show at this point. It seems clear to me, Nintendo absolutely wanted those holiday sales.

While some may disagree, Nintendo clearly has lost some control of this situation.

I am sure they do care about the public discourse. But, Nintendo gonna Nintendo!!!

FYI, I have always thought though…MS event goes First, Nintendo second, Sony in third for Jan/Feb.

All consoles going back to NES up to the PS5 Pro actually (people crying not being able to buy the disc player). But nobody wants to go the way Atari did and release prepare way more items than what the market would be willing to buy.

Scarcity can create initial hype, but it isn’t a long-term strategy. The Wii’s success came from its unique gameplay and motion controls, not just its limited availability. Once supply caught up, the buzz faded, and its success was driven by the product’s appeal, not scarcity. For the Switch 2, consistent supply and strong features would be a more sustainable approach.

I think the mindset has changed, at least in the west. People now roll their eyes at scarcity with products like this.

The Japanese love artificial scarcity though. I've missed out on countless cool collectors editions and other things because only making 1000 of them makes their dicks hard. The PS5 30th Anniversary stuff being a recent example.

that could actually be cool with some tweaks on the buttons. kinda looks like larger joycons with screens built into them!

play games like a DS but you can detach one half to co-op with a friend (if you have any). if you could dock it and connect to TV then you could connect just one half and use the other half as a controller and still have access to the 2nd screen kinda like a WiiU gamepad.

that's definitely something nintendo would do but i don't blame them for playing it safe with Switch 2 which is actually a better idea anyway.
