How Do People Think That The Order: 1886 Will Turn Out?

"When are they going to get to the gameplay paaaaart?!"

Ryse style criticisms.

PS4's Ryse. Pretty, but lacking substance.

It has ace graphics, a solid-looking setting and characters, and fun-enough looking TPS. I am in. It could easily be PS4's Ryse. I am hoping it is a bit less linear though. Visually, it looks even better than Ryse. Will be the best looking game on any platform when it is realised in my opinion.

It will be underwhelming. Maybe the Ryse of the PS4.

Ryse for PS4.

Pretty much. I love RYSE by the way.

it's hyped as hell, but for the wrong reasons.. at least from what I've seen (story+graphics, neither of which are core components of a good/great game, but usually just icing).

I have faith in RAD to do a good job based on their background, but I'm having a hard time predicting how it will do. I'll say it'll probably rest at a metacritic of 81 or so.

i HOPE it's incredible though, would love to have another last of us quality game on my ps4. I don't see any reason to want a game to be bad. good games = good for all of us

Very pretty, barebones shooter.

Will have more threads than Driveclub

I doubt that. Driveclub partly has as many threads as it does because so many people are legitimately surprised at how good it is. Many of the reviews and journalists gave off one impression, when the reality for a lot (if anything most) gamers who picked it up, has been quite different. It didn't run away with the most underrated game of the year votes so easily, without good reason. That and the game has had a series of very large updates and content releases that have fundamentally added to the game, be they the impressive weather system, photo mode, free added vehicles, tracks, tours etc. I can't see The order 1886 replicating that.

Low replayability and length unlike Wolfenstein for a single player shooter.

It will be a graphically impressive game that involves lots of hiding behind cover and shooting enemies and eventually moving in a mostly-linear fashion. There will be a fair number of cutscenes and some QTEs. The length of the game will probably be more than 6 hours and less than 20. Its production values will be very high.

People who like the above things will probably like it. People who dislike those things will probably dislike it. Others will not feel particularly strongly about the game itself, but will still use it as a blunt instrument to bludgeon others in system wars arguments.

Yup, and people already only care about those arguments like here.

Don't think I've ever wanted a game to get good reviews more than the order. Just to serve up the crow.

I think for me it will depend on the story I don't feel like the Order will the kind of experience I want to seek out for gameplay reasons.

I hope it turns out well since I have a preorder for this :p
Graphically the game looks like a winner but as far as gameplay I hope the game doesn't become repetitive and offers at the very least 10 hours of campaign.

Heres a question. Why is Gears of War good and have good gameplay and this game is mediocre/bad/boring, I don't see how the first is great and fun but the latter is bad. Actual reasons and be objective. "You don't like it" does not equal "It is bad"

*You are not allowed to say the shooting in Gears is better/tighter unless you have actually played The Order because theres no way you can get a full judgement of the tightness or feel of The Order's gunplay just from videos.

Unfortunately, I got the shorter version of the demo that didn't have the stealth sections. From what I've been told, stealth sections are few and far between and are really not core to the gameplay. They are more like cool down sections in between bigger levels. So I'm not too concerned about them.

Hmm, in the extended demo in particular they're quite prevalent. There's at least two different sections that break up the gunplay.. I thought they were good in the context of this demo but could become quite annoying if they're placed like that throughout the game.

at best, it'll be another infamous second son, only with twice the install base of Ps4s.

at worst, it'll be killzone shadow fall. or worse... a complete flop.

It will be Killzone 2, without the E3 trailer drama. Reviews will be split but not bad. Personal opinion will be heavily split. But it will likely be a game if you give it your time you will find some really amazing moments and some people will probably list it as their top give ever art direction/gfx. Others will thing it is crap. I don't imagine it will have the sales pull that gears original did though.

I never played gears, so I am not worn out on cover shooters, so I am still considering picking it up if it doesn't have any major flaws or unanimous bad reviews.

Typically previews are all hype and ignore all games problems.. then they come out and its like oh its shit.

However this game has been getting smashed in previews which tells me its probably pretty damn awful.

I have a feeling like it's going to be very "by the numbers" in terms of gameplay, but what's there is going to be extremely polished. As a fan of third person shooters, that's fine by me.

As for reviews, I'd guess it lands somewhere in the mid 70's range. Unless the story is really good, then low 80's.

I imagine that even if it was decent, the combined skepticism of everyone on Earth will probably make people far more critical than they otherwise would have been were it not like a year straight of shitty showings.

Suddenly third person shooters will be bad or not "next-gen gameplay" enough, as everyone gets ready to pop in their next eighteen third person shooters with linear gameplay that has QTEs.

I just hope they have been hiding all the cool aspects. I keep saying this shit, but this game has werewolves and fuckin' vampires probably and who knows what else. And they spent the vast, vast majority of the entire time revealing this game showing traditional corridor battles against lame human characters and one barely-there encounter that had a lot of QTEs with the werewolf. Like, really? You couldn't have shown us some more extra novel ways encounters might go when you have supernatural shit there? Surely your story ain't special enough to be worth this secrecy, probably the next D-grade movie calibre slop that someone thought was waaaay better than it actually is just like 99% of all game stories. We'll see if this is the one that was finally worth it! I rather suspect RAD and Sony are going to learn another hard lesson about how the unveil a game when they see how it performs though. Baffles me still their handling of this potentially cool product.

I think it'll play competently enough and be ahead of the average curve of third person shooters, but for me that means I'll likely have some of the same problems I have with much modern AAA game design.

If the story ends up being really good then I could see it becoming a classic. I haven't been impressed by the combat sections from what I've seen so far, but if they can make the game tonally resonant and impactful, I could see the game being, at the very least, a technical milestone.

Or its actually amazing.

Looking very mediocre, I'd urge GAF to use some restraint on this one, but my criticisms will likely fall on hyped ears.

But your concerns come from you not liking what you've seen so far. If I like whats been shown why should I show restraint?

Yeah what I was told that they exist in only a couple of other infiltration situations.

I think it's gonna be sick personally. Can't wait. Glad Bloodborne got pushed so I don't have to juggle too many games at once. (I'm actually not glad sorry I said that)

based on the gameplay trailers it looks like alot of flash little substance. but the flash is very well done so people will probably initially praise it (similar to killzone 2) only to realize after the graphics wear off you have a mediocre game.

I honestly still don't know what this game is. I know that in some way my fault because the internet exists and if you don't know what something means with the internet around...you're an idiot. I just havent seen too much videos because I don't think there is that much vidoes on it or that talk about the story. I was the same way with Destiny. I don't think anyone knew what the fuck Destiny really was before it came out (it ended up not being what everyone including Bungie thought) What i have seen of the order, has got me a bit more pumped up for the game, especially that new trailer sony released a couple of days ago.

Not since the creation of fire, the invention of the lightbulb, or the practicability of the microwave has man taken the next step in the modern age for a better future, historians will look back, books will be written and statues will be erected upon the release of The Order 1886.

I guess it will probably be the best looking game ever on a console, the story might be on par with Hollywood's "Underworld" type of movie (aka average but good for an action game). Gameplay will not "wow" anyone but will probably be solid.
Like Knack & Driveclub, it doesn't seem to try to be original and revolutionary but I guess mechanics will generally be solid.

I have high hopes for RAD's original IP debut since they have a great track record so far, impressive talents and they're backed by Sony's inhouse studios.
I guess it might feel rushed in some places and I expect frame rate drops here and there.. but I will be infinitely glad if it gives RAD other major opportunities to create their "own" games.

No fucking idea. Complete wildcard.

i feel the same as this poster

they're obviously going for the story/ cinematic aspect, the atmosphere already looks ace, but if they can weave a good story with fun gunplay then i don't see why this cant be a great new ip, the e3 trailer also showed off some nice horror elements, elements that i hope are display a lot throughout the game

I expect it to be mediocre and nothing special in the gameplay department with a decent story and gorgeous graphics.

<20 bucks and I'll be there.

Oh is it that time of the week where everyone becomes concerned for The Order: 1886 again? Fuck, can we judge the game when it's finally out? According to Gaf the game seems like a failure before it was ever released.

since when was the neogaf community a single entity with a singular opinion?

Hard to have a positive opinion since they never want to show shit about the game and when the do, it's so mind-numbingly focused on how pretty and cinematic it is. What little gameplay is shown is so constrained and familiar, I don't see this as anything but a blah time even if it looks nicely detailed. Maybe they're hiding all the awesome, but why would they when that doesn't help their case as a new IP.
