It has arrived, my dudes. Funny thing there wasnt any official seal stickers on the box. But GPU is sealed in a foil with original stickers. And there are three power connectors so it's indeed XT model.

Gonna pair it with my R 5 7600 for now since securing GPU was more pressing for me.

Should I upgrade to R 7 9800x3d later on?
7600x paired with my 9070xt. Its always driven 120fps in every game that I have without issue. The games that don’t reach 120fps is because of GPU bottlenecks.

9800x3d will certainly get you a more consistent FPS, but VRR has never made me want to spend big dollars on more CPU. CPU benchmarks confirm the 7600x is easily viable for 120fps+ gaming.

metareferential metareferential recommended to look for a used 7800x3d, so maybe I will go with this in the future.

There aren't any pins on Zen 4 and Zen 5 so it's not like I will get a bend pin... So it could make sense to buy it used.

And it's like $260 difference where I live.

Between used 7800x3d and new 9800x3d.

Looks like a nice compromise.

But for now I will just pair it with R 5 7600.

So I have already put in the GPU and no issues so far on RM750X. I was worried there but it seems to be working good.

I have tested the RX 9070 XT on CachyOS and I was surprised it maxed out my GPU in Persona 3 Reload with Ray Tracing and 200% resolution scale.

I thought the scale was a problem, then ths crashes came.

Little bit of Google and it seems AMD rushed Linux drivers.

Dual booted back to Win10 first time in like 3 months... Lots of updates later, one DDU later, installing newest drivers and.. Same spot with a lot of ray traced reflections, same settings, 120-180w tops of GPU usage.

I had the exact opposite experience with RX 6700 XT under Linux power usage was like 40-70w while in Win10 it was more like 120-180.

And I was getting ready to fully ditch Windows.

Guess I will have to wait till EOL Win10, maybe they will patch the drivers on Linux till then.

A bit of a bummer since I have grown quite fond of Linux gaming and GNOME dash to dock look with Blur my shell. Plus workflow was so much better on Linux than Windows... But what else can I do.

BTW.
I managed to turn off the RGB with Gigabyte app since I have non-rgb build 👍🏻.

BTW #2.
I didn't saw any fan settings in AMD Adrenalin Software like on my Sapphire GPU, do I really have to use the Gigabyte app for that? Seems like unnecessary bloatware... Will have to double check that since I might have missed something.

Got an email from Newegg a few days ago saying they would be doing a drop on Mon. Mar. 10th at 10am. Guessing because they cancelled my order for the PowerColor Reaper. Hit it hard at 10am and almost snagged Gigabyte Gaming OC for $729, but it out of stocked as I hit the pay button. Looped back around managed to grab a Asrock Steel Legend for $669(+$13 s&h). Waited expecting them to kill the order again, but they actually shipped it. Super stoked. Hoping to sell my Asus Proart RTX 4060 Ti 16GB for ~$600 to help with the upgrade. Not sure if I should list it until I've tested the 9070 XT and verified it works. Would suck dick to be stuck on a RX 470 while waiting for a RMA.

P.S.- Those stock trackers aren't worth shit, imo(maybe other trackers are better?). Popped off like 3hrs later with the in-stock alert. Cards from that drop were gone in like 30secs.

Post some stuff how coils behave and cooling I actually considered AsRock Steel Legend Dark as an backup if I didn't score Gigabyte Gaming OC or Reaper.

Mine Gaming OC is dead silent even under full load no coil whine.

Max temps I saw were 55/60°C.

I'm curious about this tool.

It has apparently unattainable FSR 3.1.3 DLL.

It can detect any game on your system. Soon it will have native Linux client.

If they manage to secure FSR 4 DLL it could be the best and easiest to use DLSS, XeSS and FSR 4 injecter/swapper.

Worth to keep an eye on.

Anyone having issues with FSR4? Every game that is supposed to have it throws the warning stating that FSR 3.1 is not active even when it is. Games like Warzone are supposed to be good to go but not working.

How is the performance on Linux for the 6700 XT? I have the gaming PC having attached to my TV in the living room and I play from the couch with an Xbox controller, would you think it's worth it the change? I'm a dev so I have used Linux for dev tasks before so freaking with initial configs will not be a problem for me.

I'm mostly interested in performance and minimized stuttering, is there really that much of a difference?

Amazing almost 1:1 performance with sometimes taking less watts for the same tasks, so better. Like in Persona 3 Reload. Sometimes it's a bit worse fps wise but its like 2-5 fps difference but with smoother frame graph.

You can add nonsteam games to Steam and use Steam input, I run Dino Crisis this way from GOG and I can use my d-pad instead of analog joysticks.

The best improvement over Windows is for me in UE4 and UE5 no shader pre-compilation ports when I buy games on Steam. Amazing work on Valve end.

Steam on Linux downloads pre-compilated shaders for Steam Deck from Valve servers and uses them on PC if you use games bought on Steam. So no stutters in those games whatsoever.

I had stutters in Evil West on Win10 like a mf, on Linux this is the gameplay:

I used CoreCtrl to control fans on RX 6700 XT and power managment.

As for games captures I use:

Same options as Radeon ReLive, with replay buffer going into RAM instead of SSD. And it uses GPU acceleration for x264 or x265. If you turn on the new UI you have similar overlay to AMD Adrenalin.

This guys channel is useful for any tips on Linux gaming:

I recommend CachyOS, Nobara Linux or just Fedora, all GNOME versions. Those were the best distros for me.

This guys guide to mod Fedora is really useful:

As for Steam OS look I just use Steam Big Picture mode. Tap Xbox button or 8BitDo button two or three times on a controller.

I also recommend to look through my posts and other user posts in this thread:

So, yeah for 6700xt I would recommend Linux big time, after a few tweaks and guides.

I love that games run in Prefixes on Linux so any stuff I have to mod there, just stays there.

If I break something there, I just copy save files and delete the Prefix folder.

No stutters in games without pre-compilation is a game changer.

Huge bummer I will have to wait till AMD sorts Linux drivers on 9000 series.

It's gonna be a pain in the ass dealing with those ports on Windows.

But I get that most users are on Windows and they had to sort those drivers ASAP so they would work at launch and Linux drivers are not a priority.

After a bit of reading it took AMD six months to sort RX 6700 XT Linux drivers and a year for RX 7900 XTX.

So I expect them to sort this out at least till Win10 end-of-life.

I really don't want to deal with Win11 whatsoever.

And since my other posts in Linux gaming adventures thread CachyOS started to work without issues with cursor in Wayland. So this is my main Linux gaming distro. Always the latest kernel.

Amazing, I should give it a go once the drivers for 9000 series are sorted, haven't bought it yet but by then I'll probably have it. Thanks for the input!

Yeah if they patch the drivers stuff just works.

Steam have native client so no issues there.

Heroic Games Launcher works with GOG, Amazon Gaming (I use it only for freebies), Epic games store (I use it only for freebies).

Lutris can install older games just fine from an exe file.

I tried Bottles but Lutris is better for me.

As for running Windows programs I just use Winetricks. I had better luck run exe files with programs through there than Bottles.

I even run Polling Rate tester for controllers through there from an exe file.

As for gaming I try to use latest Proton and Wine versions from GloriousEggRoll.

Useful app is ProtonPlus. It can download any version of Proton and Wine for any app to use. But be a little careful with it. Do not download any DXVK/VKD3D versions and stuff like that for Heroic. It did break my Wine/Proton versions there. So I only use built in downloader in Heroic and built in downloader in Lutris. And ProtonPlus to inject the latest version of GE-Proton into Steam instead of Proton Experimental / or Proton Hotfix.

I generally use GE-Wine in Lutris and Heroic. It can provide logs if games crash or don't open and Proton can't - but I had like zero problems whatsoever.

And GE-Proton in Steam.

To install any exe files into a games Prefixes in Heroic and Lutris there are options to either drag it or just select it, be it mods, or additional stuff like Visual C++. The Traumaturge required to drop Visual C++ installer into a Prefix but it worked after that - simple drop and drag in Heroic on an put exe here button or something like that.

For mods that use registry files you can open Wine registry editior for Prefix in Lutris or Heroic and load the .reg file there it just works.

That's about it.
