Are there any Xbox Diehards here tonight ready to give your gaming life over to PlayStation now that Xbox games are coming to the platform?

Days like these...

Have a Blessed Day
I'd love to meet enthusiastic gamers who only play on one platform. It would be an interesting convo i think. I don't understand it but maybe they can explain why.

If it's for budgetary reasons I get it, but if it's out of choice I find it odd.
Some people don't have the time to play that many games so they just stick to one platform and don't find it worthwhile to buy 2 or 3 platforms if they don't play much.

I'm not sure I'd qualify as an "enthusiastic" gamer, because I only game about 5-10 hours a week, and I'm not particularly happy about MS, Sony, or the state of gaming generally. But I do hang out on an "enthusiast" forum, so I guess that means I'm enthusiastic, lol.

The reason I only own one console (PS5) is that I just don't game enough to make it worthwhile. It's not that I haven't tried to own two consoles. But my repeated experience has been that I always end up selling the second console back, because I don't use it. That happened at least once with Playstation, twice (or was it three times?) with Xbox, and once with a Switch. Played them for about 6-12 months, then sold them back. I didn't want two consoles sitting under the TV. It felt redundant or excessive. It's not about money. For me, one is the right number of consoles/platforms.

I know I'm an outlier in that regard, at least here. About 90% of GAF plays on more than one platform. In the general population, though, the majority of gamers own just a single console.

Fwiw, only 1% of people here are Xbox only gamers - at least based on a poll from June 2024. Only 5 people identified themselves as such in that poll.

The whole premise of the thread is ridiculous. We’re gamers. There are no “Sony gamers”, or “Xbox gamers”, you buy a console for a reason, whatever that reason is, and especially nowadays it isn’t necessarily for one game that you simply have to have. That’s Nintendo’s wheelhouse now. PS certainly doesn’t have anything amazing to write home about this gen as a true killer app. There’s no Xbox or PS equivalent to a BotW just lingering away locked on only one console that is exclusive to this generation.

This generation in particular the differences essentially boil down to Blue marketing colors or Green marketing colors, and different letters or shapes on the buttons of the controllers.

How many die hard PS gamers think that playing once Xbox only games corrupts once pure PlayStation DNA

None?

We had a poll a while back and Halo MCC, Gears Trilogy and Forza Horizon games would be popular, there’s quite some nostalgia for the first two.

However Microsoft need to understand how important physical is to PlayStation and Nintendo customers.

ive always had both systems and ill continue to as long as they both exist. Gamepass > ps whatever that is
I love my Series X and I’ve never really been into first-party Xbox games so the lack of strong first party continues to not really be relevant to me. I love the back compat boosting, I love the total carry-over of my digital games from 360 and One, and I prefer to play the major third party games like Monster Hunter, Witcher 3, Skyrim, etc on Xbox. And I love that I can open up the Xbox app on my ROG Ally X and play nearly any of my Xbox games natively on the go, with instant cloud sync. Simple as that.

I’d only consider buying a PS5 at some point down the line maybe if Ghost of Yotei turned out to be particularly amazing or something like that. But that’s a big IF. I’ve got more than I have time for anyway with my Series X, Switch, and ROG Ally X.

The Xbox One sold 60 million consoles in it's lifetime.

The Xbox Series consoles have so far estimated to be sold ~30 million (+/-) by Take-Two Interactive in November 2024.

Going by rumors of the next console releasing in 2026 holidays (November), and their previous actions of shutting down production of the current gen console immediately (like they did with the Xbox One in 2020) to boost their next gen production, Microsoft would have produced another 10-15 million by then, which they would end up selling for the next 2 to 3 years.

That is ~45 million Xbox Series owners by conservative estimates of them dwindling down shipments and almost non-existant stock in emea and latam regions, due to ridiculous pricing and now add the tariff madness of the current U.S. admin to every country on planet earth, most countries will reply back with theirs.

But let's just reduce that even further to a 40 million lifetime sales for the Series consoles, just for argument's sake.

This 40 million (going by OP's wording, not mine) "Xbox diehards" keep buying new generation Xbox consoles because:

- Digital and Physical investment of game copies right from the original Xbox back from 2001.

- A backward compatibility program that not only works on the new generation console, but also enhances them with framerate boost or resolution boost, depending upon game and publisher, once again, right back to the purchases they made on the original Xbox 24 years ago, which the competition could only dream of having and honestly doesn't give a fuck about past the PS4 generation (with no framerate/res boost or a $10 paywall for first party exclusives which have them).

- The only console(s) which allow Xbox Gamepass, which is the undisputed best video game subscription service till date. Yearly CoD day one and yearly Fifa (FC), within 6 months from it's launch, on the service. On top of that, all Xbox first party retroactively and future titles, available day one (except maybe some rare cases of licensing issues where delisting happens, like the older Forza and Forza Horizon games), and to top it off, 3rd party day one bangers, like the recent Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, and Ninja Gaiden 4 later this year. No other console has this level of value for a game sub service, period.

- Friends group/family on the same ecosystem, especially with Gamepass having a lot of PvP and PvE GaaS games, it might become peer pressure.

- A lot of games featuring system link, like Halo and Gears, and splitscreen co op games make up for lan event weekends that people are used to and don't want to give up.

Those are some I can think of on the top of my head, but I'm sure that there are plenty more, personal reasons.

No, i rarely turn my PS5 on and i own the PSVR2 to boot... it has some great games but i own literally 2-3x as many games on Xbox (And it's a LOT)...

I am very happy with the XBSX still and will wait to see how next gen shakes out... if Xbox decides to duck out of the hardware game completely then obviously i will have no choice but to move to something else.

If MS and Sony work some sort of deal/solution allowing me to play all my Xbox games on the PS6 then i guess it wouldn't matter.

I'm one of those people that could also just go full on high end gaming PC though so... time will tell.

Good job OP you gathered all the twenty something xbox owners on GAF.

Dr Phil Spencer can now begin the xbox devotion level exam but he seems a little disappointed by some of them.

So what are all the fanboys going to do is Xbox does drop out of the hardware space? What will you talk about then? You going to try to go after Nintendo ? 😂🤣

I have every system so I am hardy a die hard Xbox fan but I do prefer the Series X. To be honest, the current situation just makes me just want to go PC and Switch 2 going forward. I don't need s PlayStation either these days, just patience.

Right. That would feel like a step backwards for Xbox-only guys, most of whom are big fans of GP and have large digital libraries. PC is a much better choice for them than PS - assuming they are willing to deal with the hassles and costs of PC gaming.
Yeah I think the natural progression at least for enthusiasts is to move over to PC. And casuals and mainstream gamers will keep on using the console they already have unless new games stop coming to it. Swapping platform altogether and start repurchasing games is going to a rare thing, could possibly see some dedicated console-only enthusiasts double dip for the Pro upgrades, if they’re big, which I doubt.

I went from PS5 to Series X this gen after being a mainly PlayStation player from about 2009 to 2023. Just didn’t like the brand anymore. I don’t have as much free time as I used to. I love the back compat program as I find older games better. I do not care about most Japanese games. I started to get very bored of the first party PlayStation games. If Xbox goes away, I’ll just switch to PC, unless newer games continue to dip in quality.

dont forget the xbox controller lasts longer than 12 minutes like my ps5 controller

Might sound weird but been contemplating moving back to Xbox (got a huge game library on both PS5 and Xbox) but few main points for me.

  • Recently bought a Pro, not been that impressed, game discounts are awful digitally and impossible to get a disc drive
  • Create content, Xbox allows simultaneous audio from console and headset making it an easier setup
  • PS just gone downhill, not much reason to own it when I also have a PC since recently its just remakes and remasters not much going on
  • Spent a lot of time recently on Xbox games on PC but also just want that console experience, cross-saves, full discord integration on Xbox and more
Just feel its the best console for me at the time (when I want to just play on console and not sit at my desk) and was underwhelmed by the Pro (I own 2 PS5's and a Pro), disappointed in Sony so far though especially since they "won"

Not at all, not everyone has a pc that can run games as well as a series x can.
That isnt the point at all. The point is it is pointless because all Xbox games are day 1 PC releases, not because someone’s PC isnt on par with the Series X. A redundant device from conception.

I own all consoles and a pc.

I’m quite happy mostly playing on Xbox and Gamepass. I still use my pc and PS5 occasionally but the PS5 and Switch get the least usage.

TBH, console exclusivity is irrelevant nowadays if you have a oc. Everyone gets ported to oc or gets emulated on pc.

I just like the Xbox controller, gamepass, and quality of life features (apps, interface, etc) better than PS or PC when it comes to playing on my tv.

I’ll probably get the next Xbox at launch, especially if it will dual boot Steam (rumor).

Seeing that one will have everything the other has plus more
Everything? Won’t happen. PS will get new games, post-2025 games, assumably often day 1 but sometimes late, I’ll throw out a guess at 10 games total this generation going by what’s known to be in development and how long it takes to finish games now. And also a couple older popular ones like Forza Horizon 5 as we know, maybe 10 there as well but that’s a stretch.
They’ll do it like Sony do it on PC, but more day 1 releases. Does PC get everything? Nah.

Totally, but it's best just to ignore their tired provocations.
And always remember this- we have everything and they have nothing. No wonder they remain obsessed with Xbox.

Xbox has Microsoft games

PlayStation has Microsoft AND Sony games AND more third party games

Your logic is retarded as always

An Idiot
Doesn't change the fact that PC gaming sucks. Computers remind me of work, which means I don't want to deal with them in my freetime.

I can't understand why someone would willingly game on a massive box when more sleek, visually appealing options are available. And I'm not paying extra to troubleshoot. Plug and play for the win. Console for life.
This is what I mean. Windows is not garbage, but it comes with errors, problems, crashes, freezes, slow downs, black out screens, DLL errors, exe errors. The problems just kept happening for me and that's why I'm console for life. Also I use Apple for main computing now days. Windows has given me continued problems with any brand computer I bought.

The vast majority of Xbox fanbase will move over to PlayStation. Most Xbox fans are casuals and they will go where they can play their favourite shooter/sports games easily and that is a playstation console.

This simple fact scares the Xbox refugees it's why they shill for pc now. That thought agonises them.

But the proof is in the pudding. I had a pc, I also had an Xbox series x, the games ran better on the xbox, so i chose to buy my games on an xbox.

Xbox has Microsoft games
And the vast majority of third party games and hundreds of backwards compatibility titles that aren't available on PS5.

PlayStation has Microsoft AND Sony games AND more third party games
PlayStation has a small amount of Microsoft games. You can't play Gears of War, Halo, Rare Replay or Forza Horizon 1-4 on PS5. So your statement is factually incorrect. Whatever happens in the future there will be a lot of games that don't appear on PS. Eg Halo 5 has never appeared on PC.
The vast majority of console gamers don't care about Sony exclusives.
The third party games you're referencing are almost all timed exclusives. It's nonsense to claim PS has more third party games because of this while not acknowledging that Indy (for example) wasn't released on PS5 "day and date."

Your logic is retarded as always
Go repeat your "Xbox is dead" mantra a few more times to make yourself feel better.

And for the rest of the Kratos gang... I repeat, we have everything and you have nothing.

You guys act like you hate fanboys and yet still make fanboysim threads like this.

Shooters can be played cheapest on Xbox through gamepass. Why would someone interested in COD move to PS and pay more? Makes no sense
