Yes. But "Musa from Mali" is like it says in the text not the 14th century Mansa Musa; it's a fictional character.

I haven't put effort into this, but the issue seems to be that

1. Some people are sad enough that they're trying their best to dig up controversy, I suspect it's the anti-woke crowd in this instance, idk.
2. The text in the game (is it in the game, I don't even know) may be inaccurate since the real Musa was doing his business mainly in West Africa.

But in the end of the day I'd just put all of this under "who gives a shit?!?".

Accounts of Mansa Musa were mainly for his pilgrimage from Mali to Mecca (middle east) and it even made its way into European records with a tad of an exaggeration for his wealth. The trade routes from West Africa to Middle east basically spread Islam. Building school, universities libraries and mosques meant also traders coming in west Africa were influenced indirectly by Musa.

And I agree, the very definition of who gives a shit. Henry didn't really exist either guys :messenger_face_screaming:

I laughed that they forced a Synagogue into the game where it didn't even exist only 400 years later. Aaaaah whatever it's a videogame, but I feel like he took the chuds and Grummz for a ride only to go: Nah we got bought by Embracer so now we gotta go a bit woke.

I still can't believe the guy that has the DEI or Not website is coping massively, same goes for Grummz.

Faced an irritating bug and some game systems conflicting with fictional logic:

1) There's a woman during the game intro/tutorial that gives you a personal bed. After the intro the bed is still marked on the map as yours. I went back there, slept on it, and the woman considered it as a crime. This led to the woman aither asking money for the offense (which I don't have) or calling the gards from the nearby town (that treated her like shit by the way). Now I can't go back to the town because the guards are after me. To add insult to injury, I did a quest for her that consisted on saving her a daughter from getting murdered. But all she thinks of is me paying her for the offense or calling the gards. Can't finalise the quest because of that.

2) When I saved her daughter, the latter killed the guy that was holding her hostage after I convinced the guy to let her go unharmed. Before talking to her after that, I picked a weapon laying on the floor by the dead guy. She ran away calling for the guards because I was a "thief"...

Otherwise, very good game. Solid 8/10 for me.

Not even a day out and already over 20 mods on nexus, including one I wanted most - removal of Henry GPS icon from the map, my favourite feature of hardcore mode. Gotta love PC gaming.
Thanks for the heads up! I see unlimited saves is back. I'm modding that shit in. I love the games but I HATE this limited save anywhere with the schnapps crap.

Honestly this feels like such a weird gripe. Just sleep anywhere and it’s saves.

Anyone getting a weird bug on ps5 pro where some trees are blocky 2D sprites until you get REALLY close? 😂

Didn’t expect the camp scene to happen. 😆 I’m interested to see how open this game gets. Intros are always so slow. I also never liked Skyrim’s intro.

Did you pay off your debt to her first before sleeping in the bed?

Man, so many cutscenes and long drawn out flashbacks and dialogue scenes. Good god, whats wrong with modern games? Who wants the first two hours of a game to be this boring and lacking gameplay? How did we get from god of war 2 which had an amazing first 2 hours to this?

the game also bugged out when it asked me to crush the sage bush during a 15 minute potion brewing session because well, this is an immersive sim and we have to spend 15 minutes boiling wine and mixing things one by one. I will always laugh at gamers getting upset at walking segments in playstation's cinematic games, but ok with tedious crap like this. They both make me want to slit my wrists.

Graphics are nice. I will give them that.

only got to play 2 hours.

Played the first hour on the Legion Go. Played great.

Played the second hour on my PC.

Absolutely pulled in by the story, voice acting, environment and music. Love it!

Because outside of intro (and proper exposition and tutorials this time around) game will stop holding your hand. Like absolutely. I'm almost 10 hours in and saw maybe 2 short cutscenes outside of introduction. KCD2 is very open and begs you to explore and try stuff, though I finished three very long sidequests and they are sublime and not cutscene-heavy too.

And that's actually a good intro. KCD2 tells you nicely about the events of 1 and gives you a run-down of it's inner workings for any normal player, the thing that was simply lacking in 1st.

My biggest gripe with a long drawn out intro is that it starts to make all my decisions during conversations, knee jerk reactions because I just want to get on exploring. I appreciate good openings, but a couple hours drags on if you’re not feeling it. I love exploration in games, but I also went from Astrobot to this. I’m just now done with the first alchemy pot.

I am looking forward to where you are. It just sucks a lot of the time away from your initial impression of the game.

It was meant for new players to tell them the tldr of the first game. They did a great job with it i dont see the problem here

Only a few of hours in but already in love, some quick thoughts:

- runs like a dream on Pro and looks gorgeous. I increased FOV to my preferred 100, no impact on performance (yet). Pop-in is my only complaint with visuals

- genuinely great characters, voice acting and writing. I've had multiple lol moments already and we're just getting started

- good job of onboarding introducing the various systems at play within the first couple of hours, does it in a organic, natural way

- can already tell the game is *deep* with it's myriad mechanics and how you want to build your character, this isn't an rpg it's an *RPG*

- combat is satisfying once you get used to it's flow, this isn't a hack n slash, there is seeming "clunkiness" but it's intentional

- EXCELLENT DualSense haptics, always appreciate when devs go the extra mile here, does so much for immersion

- dice is a simple mini-game but I already know I'll be spending a lot of time with it

One complaint I have is the menu is *dark*, seems to have some vignette effect going on which is baffling, give me a clean, easy to read/navigate interface. Other than that I'm excited to really dig in over the next couple of days, have the sense this will be a truly grand adventure and impress on multiple levels, let's see where the dice fall 👌

Yesterday I was bragging about how easy the combat was in the first one and now I cant even beat Hans ass in the first training match. :messenger_pensive: Need to try harder today evening.

Btw, mods like "unlimited saving", "instant herb picking", "reticle for bows" are already on Nexus. I am pretty sure I am going for these mods. This "save and exit" option really annoys me already.

I'm not finding the saving anywhere near as punishing as the first one at the moment, it seems to save after every important or quest related dialogue you have with a character, and also before every mission fight encounter, which has meant a lot less back tracking when something bad happens

I've only ran into one fight so far where it saved at an awkward point where I was low on health and found the fight nearly impossible in the state I was in

Yeah, iam a pussy. I want to save directly before encounters...just in case I am doing something dumb or simply die. It took me already 6-7 attempts to beat this cheating guy in dice, in the first camp. :messenger_grinning_smiling:

yep 100%. I already played the first in German as it was the closest to the setting.

Been alternating between German, English and Czech dub for my first two hours of play on KCD2. I wanted to play in Czech but the acting seems weaker than the other two (notably for Henry unfortunately). The English dub feels a little too "Hollywood" and does not really match the setting. In the end the German one seems to be really involved and well acted, with the same actors as the first game, so will play in this one for my first playthrough I think.
Funfact. The German Voice of Heinrich is also the German voice for Chris Pratt

If you are on PC you can use DLSS4 and do one important thing. Put the sharpness slider all the way to 0. Game looks so much better now. At default settings the game is oversharpened and gives it an oil paint look with visible jaggies aswell. At 0 it looks stunning and natural

Its a win for ps5 pro performance and also the base ps5 from the many video reviews that I saw. Looks like it will be a success in ps5 and pc in terms of sale. I was thinking of buying it for my ps5, but after I read and watch some conflictng reports on the controversial scenes, whether its optional or skippable or not, for me I want that to be cleared first. I stick to my principle, morals, and follow my instict, I did not buy the game for now. I skip it for now and just wait that all things to be cleared for me about the game before finally decide whether to buy it or not. Please dont hate me neogaf, enjoy KCD2. 😁

83 minutes in, 44% won the training duel, combat felt mad easy but we'll see how I feel after the delevel
I lost that fight cause I accidentally surrender... thinking I was going to shout "surrender" to Hans... I kept the result cause I would have probably made him win in a real life situation.

BTW I find the combat oversimplified, I beaten 2 armed bandits without a weapon (the first 2 you met) and realised there was an axe right there just after the fight.

I'm sorry but in the opening the maid woman working at the tavern has some of the worst VO. I'm pretty sure the cutscene VO and the non cutscene VO are different actresses, with the later doing the worst impression of an English accent I've ever heard.

It does have some pretty major screen tear on the base PS5 on performance mode, more noticeably in big open areas. It's not enough to ruin the game or anything, but it's very noticeable

I'm actually surprised, more the of the graphics comparison videos haven't really mentioned this

Love this game. The detail and craft in the story as it evolves and how it is presented is really surprising. Like the way I can't easily save scum to get ahead (well, at least right now it makes no sense). If I was on PC I'd be abusing something, some mod or other, to nerf the intended friction and I think it'd be a worse experience for it. Would like the option to dumb it down for subsequent playthroughs though.

Seems some some words are not pronounced even closely to correctly by the actors. TBH it's not their fault, they needed better direction. Conflicting pronunciation of names/place names between characters is fine to a point due to accents, but again a touch immersion-breaking when it's clearly more than that. But nothing, not at all even close close to the level of the old woman at the pub where you carry the sacks... oh my fucking god. What the actual fuck is that accent? Hahahaha. It's impossible to place, and I've tortured myself over and over re-listening but it's just frustratingly hard to process... best I can come up with is someone with a Scandanavian accent who learned English watching US daytime TV trying to do Yorkshire via cockney chimney sweep. That's not even close to describing it., it's all over the shop lol. That wasn't immersion breaking, it's on another level entirely as it reaches out form the screen, pokes you in both eyes with three sharps taps to the cheek shouting WAKE THE FUCK UP!

Sorry, should have checked the thread first. Here she is:

Did you pay off your debt to her first before sleeping in the bed?

The debt was for having slept on the bed, which supposedly was "mine" but the game somehow considers it not to be and hence a crime. So, there was no "debt" for the crime when I slept in the bed.

Hum. I'm also playing on a base PS5 on performance mode and I didn't notice any screen tearing.

It has already been confirmed million times that every single relationship in the game is optional and every single cutscene is skippable. You can play Asexual, heterosexual, bisexual or homosexual and it is only up to you. It is an RPG. What else do you need?
There are so many conflicting reports so Im still checking and investigating more through discussions, forums, and videos about it. Its not my final decision not to buy the game, as I said before. But I skip it for now prioritize my budget on other games. Might still get this one later for my ps5 slim, if it all turns out okay in my personal impression but not my priority purchase for now. By the way Im happy with its technical performance on base ps5 and especially ps5 pro ✌️

Anyone else starting this while never playing the first one? I heard the jank and combat in it was terrible. Problem is it’s a direct sequel and the narrative is key, so I’m not sure what to do. Maybe watch a YouTube summary?

Nah the intro is shit and i can’t wait for it to be over.. modern games really need to give people an option. the first experience with a game is important. Reminds me of the the game gets really good after 30 hours…. Like fuck that noise 🤣
