Multiple sources are stating Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal is on January 16th

I'm ok if they want to split the announcement between hardware and software, but they should show off a game or two to demonstrate capabilities.

Better yet, if they really want to build hype and engagement, they could do a short sizzle real with a bunch of super short clips of games without revealing the title of any of them. Make the community go more wild with speculation than it already is.

I think Indiana Jones & an exact release date will be announced for Switch 2 at the xbox show since its already been announced for PS5 without a date. My dream would be them also announcing the Master Chief Collection for Switch 2 at this thing. It’s the only reason I still have an xbox hooked up to my tv.
Yeah think i mentioned that in the other thread. CE on the go on this thing would be great. I know you can do it on the deck but not interested in a HH PC.

I hope they'll show at least some footage of games.

Ngl, it feels kinda useless to announce a gaming device when you don't talk about the games. No one gives a shit about the consoles themselves.
Especially when it’s an underpowered pos, you’d think they’d want people to talk about anything but THAT

I can understand focusing on the hardware… but they have to show “something” right? What better way to show off the 4K DLSS rendering than with Peach’s photorealistic armpits? /s

I wonder if they’ll do a PS5 Pro and focus on old games. At the very least, a few nameless scenes of what’s next for Mario.

I still maintain that having another company show their brand new, unannounced, console at CES was a huge mistake for Nintendo.

It completely broke the message for the Switch 2, muddled the console's identity and more importantly lost its focus.

If the official reveal this Thursday won't have any games, it will be a complete nothing burger. Just showing us things we've already seen and known for a week.

Absolutely embarrassing for Nintendo.

Either show the software, or the price and release. Just something new. Otherwise, this whole launch will start on the wrong foot. With how incredibly fickle the gaming industry is, with literally decades of Nintendo fumbling the follow-ups for their big console successes, I don't understand why they'd risk it.

I think people are taking the “focus on hardware” thing too literally. The initial Switch trailer was also hardware focused only, but we still saw stuff like Super Mario Odyssey (without getting the actual name), Skyrim etc. etc.

You bet they’ll throw in plenty of nuggets to get us excited for the next deep-dive showing of those actual titles.

“Hey internet netizens? We heard loud and clear when you said you care about which games we will launch Switch 2 with and not the console as you assume it will be a power optimised withered technology with maybe a gimmick or two right? Ok, so we will show you the console that you kind of have already seen and the actual games maybe next month 😂 “.

This… It’s going to be the same strategy as the Switch 1. But i think this time the Switch 2 presentation is going to be in February and the launch in March.

I feel like they'll have some quick shots of what to expect from the software side. At least, I'm hoping they will.
For sure. And people will be analyzing/speculating and talking about those few snippets of footage like crazy all the way up until their next show. Which I imagine is exactly what Nintendo expects and want.

This is essentially how Nintendo handled the OG Switch reveal. They interspersed clips of games with clips of people using the different hardware modes/features, but didn't officially announce any of the games teased (like Mario Odyssey and Splatoon 2) until later.

They could very well do exactly the same thing now. I think the big question is how they would make the hardware seem fresh with this approach, since the Switch reveal focused so heavily on the hybrid concept, which is already a given. Maybe the optical sensor in the joycons isn't the only new hardware feature, or maybe they'll focus on how the Switch 2 improves upon the Switch. If it's the latter, one of those improvements has to be "the games look better," which you really can't highlight without showing software, though they could use Metroid Prime 4 (if it a cross-gen game) since that wouldn't be a new announcement.

My guess though is that we'll see quick glimpses of MP4, a couple of third party games (probably a sports game like Madden and something like Elden Ring or Call of Duty that will communicate that the system can run games that the Switch couldn't) and one or both of the new 3D Mario and/or Mario Kart, but we won't get any additional info about them.

I find this super annoying. I mean yes, I will do the same, but in 2025 they could have had a damn OLED screen in there.

I guess my kids will enjoy their “new” IPS switch 2 in 2027 or so! 😉

Well, to be fair, MK9 will be played on the basement TV all the time either way.

I am with you 100% and my kids will be the same 😆

So with this strictly a hardware related announcement I’m really worried that we’re going to be waiting till may for a release. I know they can release game trailers earlier but I think they are really trying to build up hype which if they wait to long may backfire on them somewhat PR wise.

I think they have to show some gameplay footage or it will feel incredibly anticlimactic if the leaks are even 75% accurate. Can’t get hype for shit we have basically known for weeks if not months.

Not saying they have to blowout all the software here, not even close but it better not just be a high production value presentation of the shit we already know.

When I think about it the software is going to need to carry the reveal to at least a certain extent, even if you add optical sensors and other stuff the form factor and general TV/portable switching mechanic is not going to change that much, that is now very much a known quantity.

I wonder if they will bring that Matrix demo everyone was going on about last year.

8 years ago the Switch was really something new, so they had plenty to say with their reveal, I really wonder what it will be about now and especially what to expect from it docked. That’s what I care about mostly.

And I highly doubt we won't see a single game. I reckon it will be like the Switch reveal, didn't that trailer show Mario Oddysey among other games?

I'd rather pay for a 'premium' OLED model now but you know how this will go. They want your $400 now and then $500 in 2028 for the mid-gen OLED refresh.

Watch it not have DLSS

Its in the Nvidia NVN 2 API leak

Nintendo in their upscaling patent describe tensor cores from Nvidia.

But more importantly the expectations of the reveal, I don't think Nintendo would ever mention these kind of details. Why would they? They'll showcase on what gamers will have in their hands. The joycons, the magnet part, the stand, the dock, etc.

They aren't opening the insides to show a SoC APU and explaining upscaling tech like Jensen Huang would. We won't have that kind of information at reveal.

Flight Simulator 2024 and the other ports rumoured, can only be done with massive upscaling on this kind of power level handheld.

Unless the hardware does something VERY different/special from Switch 1 other than play games better, I just don't see how this makes sense. Especially considering most of the system has already been leaked.

Litterally everyone on their podcast has said they are 100% more interested in the software at this point.

These shows from Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft are for investors.

It's how console reveals are done. Xbox Series, Switch and PS5 all had teaser videos focused on hardware too.

I completely agree with the rest of your post, but I do think they're going to mention DLSS in some way, since it's part of the "magic" of the console and Nintendo loves to highlight features that subvert consumers' expectations for what video game hardware can/should be.

Although I think they'll find a more "Nintendo" way to frame it than just "the Switch 2 has DLSS." I bet they give it their own proprietary name, like calling haptic feedback "HD Rumble," and some minor tweaks of their own, which would explain that patent that popped up recently.

Its my bday, so Mazal Tov to me.

I don't see them not showing games. In the Switch reveal they showed Zelda, here we'll prob see Metroid Prime 4, next Mario, and a few 3rd party titles. Could also be a Donkey Kong game that was rumored as it'll be revealed on the same day DK is releasing, which is also why I think it's strange they would announce a console on the same day of release.

And if it is the 16h, it'll prob be a an announcement of it on the 15th.

The same sources that stated January 8th?

Funny enough, they could have been right on both.

Nintendo could have been planning for Jan 8th as to why we saw a few of those 3rd party manufactures already talking about stuff and they could have delayed its reveal to Jan 16th

As in the insider could be correct on both and merely Nintendo was indeed really planning on that 8th reveal

who knows really. I think there really might be some truth to this

Glad it’s finally being revealed but, If the rumors are true, it’s a shame the software showcase isn’t til next month.

Original Switch was just like this

A lot of Zelda, that was a sure thing already. Skyrim... Because why not!? Then everyone lost their shit with the three second video of Mario Odyssey with a girl who goes to the top of a building to play it

Didn't made any sense, but who cares? The message was well sent and it was a new fucking 3D Mario with whole new shenanigans

I watched so many times. Still holds up

If they are really splitting the hardware announcement from the game lineup, I suspect they are going to show off past Switch games that are now upgraded on Switch 2. What else are they gonna fill 5 minutes with? There is nothing much new or innovative in the console besides the lasers in the Joycons.

Unless there is a big surprise in store.

I really don't care about hardware so much with Nintendo. I literally only buy it to be able to play Nintendo games on it. If the hardware is a significant step forward from switch 1, I'm already happy and that console is old, so I guess i will be.

Showing just the hardware would be a bit underwhelming. We already know it's gonna be a more powerful Switch, how much more is there to say? It would also feel rather un-Nintendo-like, they have always put the games first.

I hope we get at least a few small game snippets. The dream being something from the next 3D Mario.

Won't be surprised if it's like Switch 1 reveal, where they pull something like showing footage of Mario Odyssey on a TV for a few seconds.

Even if it was only three seconds of a graphically impressive 3D Zelda in 4k, everyone's heads would explode and the Internet would be clamoring with hype for more information.
